NZ Flag

$95.00

The flag image was the result of a collaboration between Trevor Luzmoor and Minhal Al Halabi. Trevor and Minhal are Queenstown artists and the flag represents their thoughts on NZ identity. They thought the flag should be a progression on the current flag, and the symbols they have used are well known to every New Zealander. The current NZ flag is made up of crosses: the 3 crosses of the The Union Jack (St Andrew, St Patrick and St George) and the Southern Cross. Trevor and Minhal have kept the Southern Cross of NZ, and by using the colours red, white and blue they acknowledge New Zealand's British heritage. They have combined this with the Silver Fern and seven korus to symbolise New Zealand's sports culture, Maori culture and the seven seas (ie citizens of the world), as well as a strong connection with the environment. The shape of the fern suggests the hull of a Waka and Cooks Endeavour.
